Tucker-Jefferson Neighborhood Association
When people ask me, “Where is Tucker-Jefferson?” I say, “Between the Park and the Square.” Although our borders are Cooper to the East, Madison to the South, McLean to the West, and Poplar to the North, we consider Overton Park to be one of our neighborhood’s greatest assets. My husband and I often run into neighbors when we take our dogs to Rainbow Lake or walk through the Old Forrest trail. (Thanks to Overton Park, our dogs have just as many friends in the neighborhood as we do.) Overton Park connects us to our neighbors in Tucker-Jefferson as well as East End, Evergreen, and VECA. We look forward to snowfall, no matter how infrequent, so that we can line up with the neighborhood kids and their parents at the Brooks Museum and slide down the driveway on a cardboard box, a giant inner-tube, or whatever we have handy.
I am sure that I am not alone when I say that Overton Park is a major factor in many people’s decision to move to Tucker-Jefferson. We are one of the few neighborhoods left with affordable housing that is just a short walk from a gem like Overton Park. Tucker-Jefferson is home to students, artists, accountants, musicians, veterans, and stay at home moms (and dads) who all love Overton Park. Whether it is for jogging, frisbee throwing, picnicking, golfing, or for viewing fine art and exotic animals–Overton Park unites us.
In realizing all that Overton Park gives us, residents of Tucker-Jefferson do what they can to give back. We support the arts, clean ups, special events, and most importantly, groups like Park Friends, Inc.
